Majestic Mountains
We are blessed to live among the most
ancient mountains in the world, formed
hundreds of millions of years ago. Today, they harbor the most diverse array of plant
life anywhere in North America. They are thought to be the seed-cradle of the
continent, and they run abundantly with waters that flow in the form of rivers,
creeks, waterfalls and natural springs, bringing life to all their inhabitants.
The amazing beauty of four distinct seasons brings a special sense of balance
to life in the Smoky Mountains. Each distinct season offers its own
special gifts without being extreme in hot or cold temperatures. Autumn in
the Smokies draws visitors from all over the world to the Blue Ridge Parkway
and surrounding areas; The Great Smoky Mountain National Park is the most
visited park in the United States and the Smokies are second in the world
only to Paris as a vacation destination. Rivers are generously stocked with trout,
and the many waterways are popular for both whitewater rafting and canoeing. Hundreds of miles of trails, many
with waterfalls, run throughout the Park and surrounding areas; consequently, hiking is a favorite pastime.
Life in the Smoky Mountains is a fine balance of respect for nature and
personal exploration of its abundant beauty. The awesome mountains are both
a source of deep reverence and inspiration.

Surrounding Area
Our scenic location
borders the Cherokee Indian Reservation at the foot of the Great Smoky Mountains
National Park. Union Acres Community, though secluded by its own private
road, lies only two miles from a four- lane divided highway and an easy one
hour drive westward to Asheville, NC. Also, the community is within commuting distance of the University
of Western North Carolina in Cullowhee (20 min.) and Southwestern Community
College in Sylva (15 min.), as well as the towns of Webster & Waynesville (30 min.), Franklin (40 min.),
Bryson City (10 min.), and Gatlinburg (55 min.). It is near Nantahala Outdoor Recreation
and Wilderness Center (30 min.) and approximately 160 miles from the
major metropolitan area of Atlanta, GA. You may contact a nearby Chamber

motels are nearby in Cherokee.
